Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · Last updated 11 August 2026
This policy covers the heey iOS app and this website. It describes what we collect, what we deliberately do not, and which services we rely on.
Who this applies to
heey is an invite-only iOS beta, limited to people aged 18 or over. You reach heey through an invite link from someone already using it.
Questions about anything below: support@heey.app.
What we collect
- Account details. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. Depending on how you sign in, that means an email address or an Apple sign-in identifier, plus the display name and username you choose.
- Your friend graph. Who invited you, who you invited, which friend requests you approved, and anyone you blocked or removed.
- Heys. Which of the fixed hey variants you sent, who you sent it to, and when. A hey carries no free text, so there is no message content to store beyond the variant you picked.
- Push notification token. If you turn on notifications, a device token so we can deliver heys.
- Purchase status. Whether you hold a paid entitlement, and the receipt identifiers needed to verify it.
What we do not collect
- No free-text messages, photos, voice, or video — the app cannot send them.
- No address book or contacts upload.
- No location data.
- No advertising identifiers, ad networks, or third-party ad tracking.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
The services we rely on
- Clerk — account creation, sign-in, and session management.
- Cloudflare — hosting for this website and the heey API, and the database holding your profile, friend graph, and heys.
- OneSignal — delivery of push notifications.
- Apple — App Store distribution and all in-app purchases. RevenueCat tracks which purchases are active.
Each of these receives only what it needs to do its job. We do not operate our own advertising or analytics profiling.
What other people see
Someone opening your invite link sees your display name and profile photo, and nothing else. Friends see your display name, username, photo, and the heys between the two of you. Your email address is never shown to other users.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your account data while your account exists. Delete your account in the app and we remove your profile, friend graph, and hey history; backups and logs age out afterwards on their own schedule. You can also email support@heey.app and ask us to do it.
Your choices
- Turn push notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.
- Block or remove a friend in the app; blocking stops all heys in both directions.
- Delete your account in the app.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, by email.
Children
heey is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
We will update this page when the app changes, and note the date at the top. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app.
